Zach LaVine and Michael Jordan are two of only four NBA players to ever pull off the “impossible” feat of making a game winning shot while being fouled.

The “Zach Lavine weight” is a unique and improbable feat that has been pulled off by only 4 NBA players. The other 3 players are Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant.

Zach LaVine and Michael Jordan Are 2 of Only 4 NBA Players to Pull off a Unique, Improbable Feat

Zach LaVine is a basketball player for the Chicago Bulls. Michael Jordan used to be a member of the Chicago Bulls basketball team. So they at least have that in common.

LaVine actually overtook The Goat in terms of franchise 3-pointers made earlier this season. Jordan was no Reggie Miller or Stephen Curry, but passing Michael Jordan in any category is impressive.

But there’s another thing they have in common that demonstrates they’re (were) on a different level athletically.

Only four players in NBA history have won back-to-back slam dunk contests: LaVine and Jordan. And each of them was a part of two of the NBA’s most famous and unforgettable dunk competitions.

Zach LaVine has played an important role in the Chicago Bulls’ recent turnaround.

The Bulls are 25-10 and in first place in the Eastern Conference at this stage in the season. Chicago leads the Brooklyn Nets by 1.5 games and the reigning champion Milwaukee Bucks by 2.5 games.

The Bulls have the league’s third-best record, behind only Golden State and Phoenix.

DeMar DeRozan has gotten a lot of national attention lately, particularly after making back-to-back buzzer-beaters. At the very least, the veteran guard has thrown his hat into the MVP race in the NBA.

LaVine, on the other hand, has played a similar role.

Zach Attack has the third-most minutes on the team (35.1), after only DeRozan (35.3) and Lonzo Ball (35.4). With 26.3 points per game, he is the Bulls’ second-leading scorer, second in shot attempts, and second in free-throw attempts.

He also leads the club in three-point attempts with splits of 49.7/42.0/85.7.

LaVine isn’t Robin if DeRozan is Batman. He’s a different Batman.

LaVine was recognized as an all-around scorer before becoming a crucial component on one of the finest teams in the NBA. And, like MJ, he was renowned first and foremost for being a high-flyer.

Early in their careers, LaVine and Jordan both won consecutive dunk competitions.

Minnesota selected LaVine with the 13th overall selection in the 2014 NBA Draft. He had potential as a scorer, but he wasn’t very efficient, and he wasn’t a particularly good defender or facilitator.

But there was one thing he could do: fly.

The 6-foot-5 guard was invited to the NBA’s All-Star Weekend dunk competitions in 2015 and 2016. He put up a performance for both of them and won.

LaVine and Aaron Gordon, of the Orlando Magic at the time, had one of the most amazing dunk competitions in NBA history, wowing both spectators and other NBA All-Stars. However, in his age 20 and 21 seasons, Flight 8 was victorious.

Similarly, as a rising celebrity, MJ was invited to several dunk competitions and stole the stage. Jordan went to the air and won the dunk contests in 1987 and 1988, the latter of which being the most important dunk contest in NBA history, a back-and-forth struggle with Dominque Wilkins that placed the competition on the map.

Jordan was also a relative newcomer when he won back-to-back championships. Mike won his first race at the age of 24 and his second at the age of 25.

Oh, and in a Jordan No. 23 Tune Squad jersey, LaVine’s first dunk in the 2015 challenge was an off-the-bounce between-the-legs finish.

You may as well pay your respects if you’re going to dunk in every direction. You may as well do it in a Space Jam shirt if you’re going to do it.

Now it’s up to the current Bulls’ two-guard to win another title for Chicago.

In his career, Air Jordan (a appropriate nickname in this instance) moved on to far larger and better things. He became into more than a dunker and an offensive juggernaut. He won the NBA championship.

LaVine, meanwhile, has progressed from a dunker and one of the league’s finest individual offensive players to a more well-rounded talent with his sights set on a second All-Star Game trip.

He’s even becoming a more capable defender.

But the 26-year-old has to take at least one more step (technically six more) before he can really be compared to Michael Jordan in Bulls history. He must guide his squad from first place in the East to last place in July.
