Tom Brady Is Still Haunted by His Super Bowl 52 Drop Against the Eagles

Tom Brady is going through the free agency process and has been linked with a possible return to New England, but in his first media availability since Super Bowl 52, he said that there’s “no way” he would ever come back. Why does Brady still feel haunted by one of the biggest moments of his career?

The “philadelphia eagles super bowl” is a story that has been haunting Tom Brady for years. It’s the game where he dropped a pass against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 52. The Patriots would go on to win the game, but it was still an embarrassing moment for Brady.

Tom Brady Is Still Haunted by His Super Bowl 52 Drop Against the Eagles

Tom Brady and the Philadelphia Eagles will meet again in the playoffs in just a few days. Given that it’s a wild-card game, the stakes are much lower this time (the last two meetings were in the Super Bowl). This isn’t to say Brady isn’t looking forward to the chance to exact some vengeance on the team that robbed him of a Super Bowl ring.

In fact, according to Brady, he’s still tormented by his Super Bowl 52 defeat to Nick Foles and the Eagles. One play in particular during the defeat to Brady stands out.

Super Bowl 52 will go down in NFL history as one of the most memorable Super Bowls. It had everything a championship should have: the underdog against dynasty dynamic, a backup quarterback, trick plays, and so forth. While the “Philly Special” at the conclusion of the first half is the trick play that everyone remembers from the game, Brady and the New England Patriots attempted their own trick play earlier in the game.

The Patriots executed a double reverse that culminated in Brady racing down the right sideline, absolutely open, in a play that looked strikingly identical to the Philly Special that had yet to unfold. Nobody stood in his way of the end zone; all he had to do was snag a ball from one of his Patriots receivers.

The ball instead tipped off Brady’s fingers and landed incomplete. The whole incident became a major meme among raucous Eagles supporters, particularly after Foles’ successful touchdown reception later in the game.

Brady is still tormented by the plunge, according to a recent edition of Sirius XM’s “Let’s Go.”

“That play comes to me,” Brady added. “I’m reminded of that play every time I see an Eagles supporter.”

This Sunday, Tom Brady will have an opportunity to avenge himself against the Eagles.

Brady will face a very different Eagles team from the one he faced in Super Bowl 52, which he lost to little under four years ago. However, Brady still has a chance to silence those Philly supporters who are always criticizing him over Super Bowl 52 in this weekend’s wild-card game.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are 8.5 point favorites, are playing at home (according to CBS Sports). The Buccaneers have also defeated the Eagles once this season, which provides them a boost of confidence.

If there was ever a moment for Brady to thrash the Eagles, this is the one.

Will there be any more ruses?

According to Elias, this is the fourth playoff game with the top rushing offense (Philly) and the top passing offense (Tampa) since the merger, and the first since 1996.

In two of the previous three meetings, the team with the most running yards won.

This season, Brady was an MVP candidate. He had the most throwing yards, completions, and touchdowns in the league. It’s difficult to picture the Buccaneers using trick plays to take the ball away from him during Wild Card Weekend.

On the other side, the Eagles may resort to deception early and repeatedly. They have a team that is built differently than others, with a heavy reliance on the running game. It’s possible that trick plays will be their best option for picking up big plays in the air.
