The Philadelphia Eagles quietly considered a trade to the Minnesota Vikings after it became clear that Zach Ertz was going to sign a new contract with the team. The trade would have sent Pro Bowl cornerback Byron Maxwell to Minnesota, who has been a stabilizing force on the Vikings’ defense since joining the team in 2015. In exchange, the Eagles would have received Pro Bowl running back Adrian Peterson, defensive end Everson Griffen, and a third-round draft pick from the Vikings.
The Eagles were widely expected to be active in January when the NFL’s trade deadline rendered their current roster surplus to requirements. After all, they have two first-round picks in this year’s draft, and six selections overall, including the No. 2 pick, which has the potential to be a franchise-shifting selection. The Eagles may have been in line to trade dynamic tight end Zach Ertz if it meant they could get a quarterback in return.
Make no mistake, the fact that Zach Ertz is a Philadelphia Eagle is an offense to the Minnesota Vikings.. Read more about philadelphia eagles news and let us know what you think.
Dallas Goedert and Zach Ertz are two of the best tight ends on the Philadelphia Eagles’ squad.
For the longest time, many anticipated the Eagles to move Ertz and focus on the younger Goedert. Since at least 2020, Ertz has allegedly been dissatisfied with the team’s front staff. His name has been connected to transfer negotiations for a long time, with many predicting that a deal will be made before the start of the season.
The Eagles, on the other hand, seem to be contemplating a different strategy.

NFL source Matt Lombardo reported in a recent piece for FanSided.com that the Eagles and Vikings explored a possible deal that would have sent Goedert to Minnesota instead of Ertz:
Zach Ertz of the Philadelphia Eagles has been the target of trade speculations all summer, but as roster cuts have been made and another offseason milepost has passed, it seems more probable that Ertz will return to the City of Brotherly Love for his eighth NFL season.
But don’t be shocked if Eagles GM Howie Roseman decides to move one of the team’s other tight ends… Goedert, Dallas.
Trading Goedert, the 49th overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft and a favorite of former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, would be a full exorcism of the franchise’s lone Super Bowl-winning coach.
Roseman considered trading Goedert to the Vikings, according to several league sources, before Minnesota went on to acquire Chris Herndon in a trade with the Jets.

The fact that Goedert is in trade discussions is most likely related to Zach Ertz’s recent announcement.
TE for the #Eagles In his first public remarks this season, Zach Ertz said: “This is the place where I want to stay, where I want to retire. I’m over anything that occurred over the offseason. Apologies have been made.” The team has also been “mended,” according to him.

Many people thought Goedert would get a contract extension from the Eagles before Lombardo’s report. He was drafted in the second round in 2018 and has shown tremendous promise over the last three years.
So, why is he now engaged in trade negotiations with an NFC competitor? It’s only natural to believe it has something to do with Ertz’s re-establishment as a long-term fixture in Philadelphia.
Ertz made his first appearance in front of the Philadelphia media on September 1 after months of speculation and trade rumors. He said that he wants to retire with the Eagles and that he forgives general manager Howie Roseman for previous mistakes.
Ertz is a 30-year-old tight end who is regarded as one of the finest in the NFL. It makes sense to favor him over a less-proven Goedert if he wants to stay in Philly in the future.
At this year’s trade deadline, keep an eye on the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Vikings eventually shifted their focus away from Goedert, signing Christopher Herndon IV from the New York Jets. That doesn’t rule out the possibility of a deal for Goedert.
Trading Goedert during the last year of his deal makes sense if the Eagles are ready to devote to Ertz.
Goedert is a skilled receiver and blocker. If the Eagles keep shopping him, a lot of clubs will give excellent draft capital.
