The Boston Celtics had a rough summer, and they have the fruits of their labor to show for it. They had a lot of fans that were hyped for their future, and the Celtics’ future looked bright. But that future came crashing down in a hurry.

Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce may have been two of the NBA’s most well-liked players, but their draft picks Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum have already earned a reputation as the next generation of Celtic stars. Brown has become a viable starter in the NBA, averaging 10.5 points and 5.9 rebounds as a rookie, while Tatum has started all 41 games for the Celtics, putting up averages of 15.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

The critics made up their minds that Jaylen Brown was a reach at #3 in the 2016 NBA draft, and many were right. He was a reach. However, what most critics failed to realize was that the Celtics relied on the NBA draft lottery system to select Brown, who was a very good prospect.. Jaylen Brown was selected third overall in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics five years ago. Initially, Celtics fans were not pleased with the selection. Many supporters hoped that the club would choose Providence College point player Kris Dunn.

Dunn was selected with the second overall selection by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Fans won’t be unhappy with the Brown selection right now, but they’ll be even happier when the Celtics acquired Dunn in a trade on Friday.

Kris Dunn is traded to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Tristan Thompson.

Celtics supporters are about to get their guy. Dunn is back where Boston fans wanted him in 2016, five years after a less-than-stellar NBA career.

The Celtics are selling Tristan Thompson to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Kris Dunn, forward Bruno Fernando, and a second-round pick, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The trade adds depth to Boston’s point guard position while also saving the club $3 million. Thompson’s stint in Atlanta will be short-lived, according to Wojnarowski, as he will be traded to the Sacramento Kings.

Dunn has failed to live up to expectations after being drafted fifth overall in 2016. In five years, he’s played for three different clubs, with just one season in Minnesota. After his first season, he was dealt to the Chicago Bulls as part of a package deal for Jimmy Butler.

Dunn’s finest years were spent with the Bulls, when he averaged 13.4 points and 6.0 assists in his first season. In his third season, he added 11.3 points and 6.0 assists to his totals.

Dunn was signed by the Atlanta Hawks before to the 2020-21 season. Due to leg problems, he was only able to play four games in Atlanta.

Kris Dunn was a target for Boston Celtics supporters in 2016.

Brown was unknown in Boston five years ago. He attended Cal on the opposite side of the nation for a year of collegiate basketball.

Dunn, who attended Providence College and played for the Celtics, was well-known to Celtics fans. He was not only from the area, but he was also the Friars’ most powerful player.

Dunn, a 6-foot-3 point guard, was awarded Big East Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year after missing the most of his sophomore season due to shoulder surgery. He was a defensive stopper who could also score. Dunn led the conference in both assists and steals, averaging 15.6 points per game.

Dunn forewent his last year of eligibility in order to enter the draft, where he was projected to be a first-round selection. That year, the Celtics were selected third overall and had the option to choose a local product. Many of them were upset when Danny Ainge chose the unknown Brown over the local hero in Dunn.

The Celtics made the correct choice.

Many Boston supporters were dissatisfied in June of 2016, but they are today. Brown has established himself as one of the greatest young players in the NBA, appearing in his first NBA All-Star Game this season. Brown appeared in 58 games, averaging 24.7 points and 6.0 rebounds.

Brown has averaged 15.1 points a game throughout his career, but has averaged more than 20 over the previous two seasons. He and Jayson Tatum have joined up to become one of the finest young duos in the game for the Celtics.

No Celtics fan has a vendetta towards the front staff because of the 2016 Draft. As he returns ‘home,’ Boston is hoping Dunn can recapture some of that Friar magic.

In 2015, the Boston Celtics used their first round pick to draft Jayson Tatum, as a small forward, from Duke University. The Celtics had two other players, Guerschon Yabusele and Ante Zizic, who were also at Duke, but they were taken in the first round in the previous two drafts. Tatum was the only other player taken in the 2015 draft who was not in the nation’s top three point guards, but had good size, athleticism and could shoot the basketball..
