Thanasis and Giannis Antetokounmpo Join Brother Kostas to Make NBA History in the Best Way Ever

On January 1, the Milwaukee Bucks became the first NBA franchise to have three brothers play in the same game. Giannis Antetokounmpo, who already had a brother he shares the same name with, Thanasis, in Greece, and now has Giannis Antetokounmpo, both played a very good game, in which Giannis led the Bucks to a win. Thanasis, who was traded to the Bucks, was 5 for 9 from the field, and he also had four steals, and 2 assists. Giannis, who had a very good night, he had 28 points, and 9 rebounds, and two assists. On the other hand, Kostas, who was traded to the Bucks, had

For the Bucks, losing Giannis Antetokounmpo was a big blow to the team. Not because of his on-court production. Giannis has been having a phenomenal year as the Bucks’ featured scorer, and his injury was not due to basketball-related injuries. But the Bucks will be without one of their greatest assets: his commitment to the team. In the Greek words of the song “The Final Countdown”, “You gotta make a stand/You gotta make a stand now/You gotta make a stand/You gotta make a stand now.”

Yes, the Chicago Bulls just won the NBA title. Yes, Thanasis Antetokounmpo is now the first Athenian to hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy. And yes, Giannis Antetokounmpo is a Greek legend. But that’s not the best part. Because, you see, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Thanasis Antetokounmpo are brothers. And in the history of the NBA, the two un-nicknamed brothers to play for the same NBA franchise are Giannis and Kostas Antetokounmpo.

With his dominant performance in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, Giannis Antetokounmpo stole the stage. However, the recently crowned Finals MVP got some assistance from his brothers in making history. Giannis, Thanasis, and Kostas Antetokounmpo have accomplished what no other trio of brothers has done.

The Antetokounmpos aren’t the first family to have three members of their family play in the NBA. The Greek trio, on the other hand, rises to the top of the class when the Milwaukee Bucks win the NBA title. Giannis Antetokounmpo was the first of the Antetokounmpo brothers to play in the NBA, but two brothers joined soon after.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was selected as a first-round project by the Bucks.

Before the Milwaukee Bucks selected him in 2013, few people outside of NBA draft scouting circles had heard of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Antetokounmpo was born in Greece to Nigerian parents and played for Filathlitikos in Greece’s second tier. John Hammond, the Bucks’ general manager at the time, was interested in him. Milwaukee selected the 6-foot-9, 196-pound prospect with the 15th overall selection.

Giannis averaged 6.8 points and 4.4 rebounds in 24.6 minutes per game as a rookie, but he showed glimpses of brilliance for a player who was just 18 when the season began. He was a full-time starter in his second season after returning from the summer at 6-foot-11. During the 2015–16 season, then-Bucks coach Jason Kidd experimented with Antetokounmpo as point guard.

Antetokounmpo’s fame grew significantly during his fourth NBA season. Antetokounmpo, who was named the league’s Most Improved Player in 2016–17, set the tone for what was to follow. For the first time, he was named to the NBA All-Star team, as well as All-NBA and All-Defensive honors.

Antetokounmpo signed a record $228 million contract in December 2020, after winning two MVP titles and the Defensive Player of the Year award. He has now fulfilled his commitment to bring a title to Milwaukee.

As Giannis’ fame grew, his brothers followed him to the NBA.

Thanasis didn’t make it to the NBA until 2016, despite being two years older than Giannis Antetokounmpo. In 2014, the New York Knicks selected Antetokounmpo’s father in the second round. He didn’t join with the Knicks until August 2015, however. Thanasis received a call from the Knicks on a 10-day deal after being cut at the conclusion of training camp. He saw play in two games and scored six points in six minutes.

Antetokounmpo returns to the NBA in 2019, reuniting Giannis with the Bucks after two seasons in Greece.

Both Giannis and Thanasis are now NBA legends. According to Reuters, the Antetokounmpos are the first trio of brothers to win an NBA title.

Kostas, the younger brother, followed a different path to the NBA. Before entering the 2018 NBA draft, he played one season at Dayton.

On draft night, Kostas was traded to the Dallas Mavericks and signed a two-way deal. In July 2019, he was released and signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. As a reserve for the 2020 bubble champions, Kostas won a ring. According to Arash Markazi of The Mightier 1090 AM in San Diego, Giannis joked about Kostas being the first.

“A lot of people were joking last year when Kostas won his championship with the Lakers. Obviously, at the dinner table, it was a little bit awkward because he got his ring before me.”

That discomfort should fade now that Giannis and Thanasis have joined Kostas in winning championships.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and his siblings are not the only Antetokounmpo brothers in NBA history.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and his siblings are the first siblings to win an NBA championship. Brothers, on the other hand, are far from uncommon in NBA history. According to The Associated Press, the league has nine sets as of January 2021.

Trios are a little more uncommon. Jon, Brent, and Drew Barry, like Campy, Frank, and Walker Russell before them, all played in the NBA. Jrue, Justin, and Aaron Holiday are the only current Antetokounmpos trio.

However, for the time being, one family remains at the top of the Antetokounmpos. The Jones family had four NBA siblings in the 1970s and 1980s. Caldwell Jones was the most accomplished of the Jones brothers, although brothers Charles, Major, and Wil also had successful careers.

Perhaps Giannis Antetokounmpo and his 19-year-old brother Alex can collaborate to stay up with the Joneses.

Basketball Reference and Real GM provided biographical information.

Magic Johnson cost the Lakers $50,000, according to a report. Simply by stating that Giannis Antetokounmpo would lead the Bucks to an NBA championship,

Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Giannis Antetokounmpo are young brothers from Greece. They are both young basketball players and brothers. They have been competing against each other for years. Thanasis is the older brother and the more experienced of the two. He has been in the NBA for four years, while Giannis is in his first year with the Milwaukee Bucks..
