Norm Nixon Has 2 Pieces of Good Old-Fashioned Advice for Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook has made a name for himself as the league’s best point guard, but he still needs to learn some lessons. Here are two pieces of advice from one-time NBA great and current FOX Sports commentator Norm Nixon that any athlete can benefit from.

The “norm nixon net worth” is a piece of advice that Norm Nixon has for Russell Westbrook. He also has two pieces of good old-fashioned advice for him.

Norm Nixon knows a thing or two about NBA basketball. He also understands what it’s like to perform in front of a large audience. Nixon spent the first six years of his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers before joining the San Diego/Los Angeles Clippers for the last four.

Nixon was a guest on The Cedric Maxwell Podcast last month, when he discussed a range of issues with Maxwell, a former Celtics player. When Maxwell contacted Nixon for help, he gave two pieces of wisdom to struggling Lakers player Russell Westbrook.

In Los Angeles, Norm Nixon was a two-time All-Star.

Nixon, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Duquesne, was taken in the first round of the 1977 NBA Draft by the Lakers. He had an early impact, earning a spot on the All-Rookie Team in 1977-78. Nixon played 34.3 minutes per game in 81 games in his first season. He scored 13.7 points and dished out 6.8 assists.

Nixon’s stats improved to 17.1 points and 9.0 assists the next season, and he continued to demonstrate his endurance by appearing in all 82 regular-season games. Despite the high odds, the Lakers chose Magic Johnson first overall in the 1979 NBA Draft.

Nixon informed Maxwell that the relocation didn’t affect him.

“I wasn’t afraid or concerned about Magic when they selected him,” Nixon said. “I didn’t care about my work because I wanted to win.” They were going to find out a method for us to play together once Magic arrived. I had no fear that he would come in and take my job. That was not even on my radar.

“I wasn’t worried about Magic coming in to steal my job since Max knows I put in the effort.” “How are we going to play together?” I wondered.

They figured it out. Nixon scored a career-high 17.6 points in their first season together. He played in the first of his two NBA All-Star Games two years later.

The Lakers signed Westbrook, a nine-time NBA All-Star, to join LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the court. It didn’t go as planned.

The Lakers failed to reach the playoffs with those three studs. Westbrook suffered at BG period and was mostly to blame. Maxwell inquired about Nixon’s guidance to Westbrook, who will earn more than $47 million next year.

Nixon said, “This is the thing.” “I never considered Westbrook to be a point guard.” He’s never played point guard before. He was just an athletic scorer. They would have won in OKC if he had that point guard attitude. Down there, they would have won.

“With all these outstanding players, they had so much skill, yet they started competing against each other one on one.” In the final two minutes of those OKC defeats, he’d have three turnovers, (Kevin) Durant would have three turnovers. They’ll be up and lose a game because no one is in charge of the squad and forcing them to take the correct shots.

“So, if I were Westbrook at this point in his career, I’d simply play,” he said. Don’t pay attention to this. Go for the bucket. Stop taking threes in a row. Begin by returning to your old painting habits.”

Any other suggestions?

“You have 40 million every time you feel awful,” he continued.

Nixon proposed an explanation for Westbrook’s struggles.

It will be difficult for the Lakers to transfer Westbrook because of his deal, but it will also be difficult to rebuild a club that missed the playoffs because of all that money. He’ll most likely remain a Laker until a club accepts his expiring contract.

Westbrook attempted 265 three-point shots this season, hitting 29.8% of them. Nixon urges he return to his old game of attacking the basket since he struggled from long range. The former Laker guard also had an explanation for his poor shooting.

Nixon said, “This is also the other thing that occurred to him.” “I’m using basketball as an example.” Because he wasn’t leaping out of the gym, Larry Bird could always shoot. To fire his jump shot, he was leaping this high (indicating an inch with his fingers).

“Westbrook and I were both jump shooters. We were leaping in the air. Our knees are now in pain. Guys who previously couldn’t get their hands in front of your picture are now way up here. As a result, you must alter your strategy. I don’t believe he has someone to tell him, “Hey, you need to modify your game a bit.” You’re not leaping as high as you used to.

“I saw him moving to the cup, everything he’d dunked before, but he’s now below the rim.” These men don’t always cope with the realities of their situations.”

After missing the playoffs, LeBron James and the Lakers were chastised on social media.

Magic Johnson has given Russell Westbrook two pieces of advice for the season. The first is to “just be yourself,” and the second is to “always have a smile on your face.” Reference: magic johnson rings.
