It’s no secret that Jordan Brand basketball shoes are a huge money maker, particularly for Nike. While Michael Jordan was the greatest basketball player of all time, he was also a businessman and a shrewd one at that. He knew that the best athletes are often the most recognizable and he wanted a roster of the best. He earned All-American honors three years in a row, and led Laney High School, in Wilmington, North Carolina, to four state championships. In his senior year, 1984, he averaged 28 points, 11 rebounds, five steals, and three blocks per game. He was named North Carolina’s Player of the Year, and was recognized as one of the best high school basketball players in the country. However, Jordan had one significant drawback: he was not very tall. At the time, he was only six feet tall. A key part of basketball is blocking opposing players from getting to the rim. It’s one of the main ways to control the tempo ofDuring his legendary years in the NBA, Michael Jordan didn’t lose often. Every time he did, he came back and beat the team/player worse than they beat him. However, in a pickup game during his career, Jordan once had a sophomore block his shot. The Los Angeles Clippers then selected him third overall in the 2000 NBA Draft. Miles had little success in his first two seasons. He was named a rookie in his first year, averaging 9.4 points and 5.9 rebounds. However, he could not take the next step. East St. Louis star Louis, Illinois, averaged 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in the 2001-02 season before being traded by the Clippers to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2002. Miles averaged 9.2 points and 5.4 rebounds for the Cavs in the 2002-03 season, but was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers the following season. He ended up playing in 145 games for the Blazers in three seasons, but didn’t return to action at all in 2006-07 and 2007-08 because of a knee injury. He played 34 more games for the Memphis Grizzlies from 2008 to 2009. He had the best year of his career in the 2005-06 season, when he averaged 14.0 points and 4.6 rebounds in 40 games for the Blazers. Since then, many have wondered if Miles could have become an NBA superstar had his career not been interrupted by injury. He really had the potential, and Jordan even saw it.

I stopped blocking or urging him and he did the rest, he said. … He went to work and there was nothing I could do.
