Former Suns center Kendrick Perkins has never been shy about making bold claims about his former team, and he’s just upped his championship guarantee to the highest of his career.
I’ve been skeptical about the Phoenix Suns’ chances of winning their first NBA championship ever since the team traded away their all-star forward, Amare Stoudemire, in 2010, and the fact that they still haven’t won a ring in 6 years. Kendrick Perkins, who was on his way to his first Finals appearance in 2010, when the Suns traded him to the New Orleans Hornets for Gerald Wallace, is the latest player to put money on the team winning their first title. While I’m not a big fan of gambling, and I don’t think Perkins should stake his house on the team winning this year’s title, I think he could make a pretty penny if they did.
The Phoenix Suns are the most-hyped playoff team in the NBA this year, and for good reason. They have the best record in the NBA and are led by a superstar rookie, a perennial All-Star, and one of the best centers in the league.Kendrick Perkins has made good progress after basketball. The former first-round pick became an analyst for ESPN and quickly made a name for himself. Obviously his record isn’t the best, but he’s just passionate in his analysis. Before the start of the NBA Finals, Perkins gave his opinion on the Phoenix Suns vs. Milwaukee Bucks.
Perkins appeared on ESPN The Jump with Richard Jefferson to talk about the favorite team to win the NBA championship. Perkins, as usual, exaggerated.
But it’s hard not to admire what Kendrick Perkins has done to go from player to media.

Kendrick Perkins spent his 14-year NBA career with the Boston Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder, Cleveland Cavaliers (twice) and New Orleans Pelicans. He came to the NBA in 2003 after attending Clifton J. W. Hoffman High School. Ozena in Beaumont, Texas. Perkins was chosen 27th by the Memphis Grizzlies. selected and traded to the Celtics on the night of the game.
When Boston assembled its Big Three of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce in 2007, Perkins was the second option behind Rajon Rondo. In 782 NBA games, he averaged 5.4 points and 5.8 rebounds. He has scored more than 10 points per game once in his career, averaging 10.1 points per night for the Celtics in the 2009-10 season. But his injury in the NBA Finals foiled Boston’s attempt to eliminate the Lakers.
As an analyst, he’s either Tim Legler for big men or Dan Orlovsky for basketball. In other words, a man who has had a long but not particularly distinguished career. Perkins has a lot of points for a championship ring. Legler was able to build on many things in his three-point victory. At one point, Orlovsky ran out of the back of the end zone. Okay, maybe that’s a bad example.
Anyway, Perkins is probably best described as an acquired taste.
Jefferson made his prediction on The Jump, and picked the Phoenix Suns to win their first NBA title. Kendrick Perkins not only matched Jefferson, but he left the ledge in the style of Thelma & Louise .
That’s all the confidence I have in the Phoenix Suns. I wish you had told me before the show started that you were going to Vegas, you know, yesterday and half the time, because then I would have told you to put your house on it. That’s all the confidence I have in the Phoenix Suns right now.
(you) lack nothing. If you look at their depth, they have two excellent backcourts with Devin Booker and Chris Paul. They have the shot, they have the defensive identity, they have young star Deandre Ayton who is the anchor of the defense and everything you want to see at the center position. And if you look at their bank: Cameron Payne, Cam Johnson, (Dario) Sharich. They have a lot of depth.
Kendrick Perkins has built his brand on explosions. Sometimes it was outrageously false, but always outrageously false.
Kendrick Perkins’ NBA career essentially ended when he was signed as a free agent after the 2015-16 season. After a year off, he tried to return to the Cavaliers, but didn’t get beyond the preseason. They brought him back for the playoffs and let him go last summer.
As he prepares for free agency in 2019, Perkins said there is a top prospect to take on Kevin Durant, according to The Ringer, and he said this during an appearance on The Jump.
Kendrick Perkins in 2019
That prediction had weight. After all, Perkins played five seasons with Durant in Oklahoma City. When Durant signed with the Brooklyn Nets, Perkins was the game’s most prominent analyst.
In a short time he has already made some controversial decisions. He said LeBron James is better than Michael Jordan during an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up!. His reason? Jordan wasn’t fighting for a title when he was 35.
Aside from the fact that Jordan won the last of his six rings at 35, Perkins was right. He shot against current Celtics players Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown. His friend Durant responded to him after Perkins tackled Kyrie Irving. He challenged Jordan to a reveal during ‘s The Last Dance.
Did Kendrick Perkins outdo himself in the NBA Finals? It’s just a product that stays on brand.

COMPARED TO: Charles Barkley just doomed the Milwaukee Bucks with his latestguarantee. The Phoenix Suns are the best team in the NBA in many ways. They are young, they are athletic, and their point guard is one of the best in the game. But as you can see from the above quotes, there is one area where the Suns lack: championship experience..
