Josh Allen Reunites With Two Wyoming Cowboys Teammates for 2021 Season

Josh Allen and his best friend from college, WR Garrett Whitley, will reunite with their college teammates in the pros next year.

When the very first Nebraska Cornhuskers football game was held in 1878, it was against the hometown Omaha Athletic Club. That game marked the beginning of the school’s football program, as well as the beginning of the “Golden Era” of football at Nebraska.

The 2021 NFL Draft is still months away, but its finally happening. With the NFL Combine coming up, we have a better idea of where all the prospects are headed. Chad Kelly will be the first Wyoming Cowboy drafted in three years. The sophomore Wyoming quarterback was a solid performer at the Combine, running a 4.71 forty yard dash, completing 14 out of 25 passes (52%) for 166 yards and two touchdowns, but it was his long jump that most impressed the scouts.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has been on the University of Wyoming Bills roster since 2018. Allen has become a major figure in the 2018 NFL Draft process, but he was relatively unknown when he plied his trade in the Mountain West Conference. In his three years in Buffalo, Allen has become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Now the Bills want to find more gems in the state where Yellowstone National Park is located.

Josh Allen has gone from unknown Wyoming QB toNFL MVP candidate

NFL MVP voting results, according to the AP (out of 50): Aaron Rodgers: 44 Josh Allen: 4 Patrick Mahomes : 2 – Matt Schneidman (@mattschneidman) February 7, 2021 Allen grew up a Bay Area sports fan in Firebaugh, California, near Fresno, according to Allen is 6-foot-4 and, as a non-star recruit, received no offers for a Division I scholarship. He went to Ridley Community College where he scored 2,055 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also grew to 1.90 m and weighed 2.80 kg. Impressive statistics and rapid growth led Allen to choose a Wyoming offer over Eastern Michigan. In his three years at Wyoming (two years as a starter), Allen ran for 5,066 yards and 44 touchdowns, and also ran for 767 yards and scored 12 times on the ground. Based on those results, the Bills selected him as the No. 7 overall pick in 2018. After two years of being considered a future QB for the Bills, Allen broke out in 2020 and became the best signal-caller in the league and one of the best in the entire league. In 2020, he totaled 4,544 yards and 37 touchdowns with just 10 picks. He also improved his completion percentage (69.2%) by more than 10 points from last season (58.8%). Those numbers led the Bills to their first AFC Championship Game since 1993 and helped Allen finish second in the NFL MVP race.

In the 2021 season, the Buffalo Bills have contracted former Wyoming players Jacob Hollister and Tanner Gentry

#Bills has signed former #Seahawks TE Jacob Hollister to a one-year contract, according to a source. Another weapon for Josh Allen, who played with Hollister at Wyoming. – Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) March 19, 2021 Ahead of the 2021 season, Buffalo management is adding two attackers with whom Allen played at Wyoming, hoping to find more magic in the Equity State. Tight end Jacob Hollister and wide receiver Tanner Gentry came to the league from Wyoming in 2017. Gentry played for the Chicago Bears this year and was on the team’s practice squad in 2018 and 2019. He played for the New York Guardians XFL team in 2020. After he left Wyoming, Hollister became a fixture in the NFL. After a couple of seasons where he got few opportunities in New England, the 6-foot-8 tight end has done well in his two years with the Seattle Seahawks. He caught 66 balls for 558 yards and six touchdowns during his time at Pacific Northwest. Allen seems very excited to be back with his old/new teammates. He told Wyoming-based College is a time to be yourself, and I had a great group of friends that I still hang out with now, and Jake and Tanner (are) part of that group….. I couldn’t have wished for a better situation. Three Wyoming players on one team may seem like a lot for a relatively unknown football school, but a number of former Cowboys have actually played in the NFL over the years. word-image-8423 word-image-8424 Josh Allen | Photo Steve Conner/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) The University of Wyoming Cowboys football program does not compare to Alabama, Ohio State or the University of Miami when it comes to developing talent for the NFL. But more NFL players have probably come out of this program than you think. Since 1925, when quarterback Bob Fitzke played for the Frankford (Pennsylvania) Yellow Jackets, Wyoming has sent 86 players to the NFL. Allen may be the most famous former Cowboy, but he’s not the most successful. That honor went to former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jay Novacek. St. Louis Cardinals The St. Louis Rams placed him in the sixth round of the 1985 NFL Draft. Novacek played 11 seasons, made five Pro Bowls and one All-Pro team, and won three Super Bowls with Dallas. In addition to Allen and Novacek, running backs Jim Kiick (1968-77) and Vic Washington (1971-1976), running back Conrad Dobler (1972-1981) and running back Tashan Gipson (2012-present) are on the list of Wyoming players who have made at least one Pro Bowl appearance. The Bills’ QB is on track to surpass all these names in just three NFL seasons. Now we’ll see if the reunion with their college teammates Hollister and Gentry can help add their name to the list of the best NFL players in Wyoming football history.
