In a recent video, Buccaneers Quarterback Jameis Winston wasn’t doing a great job of hiding his feelings when he got beat up in a weight room workout. It didn’t take long for the Internet to pounce on the video, and Winston quickly issued an apology to his fans, although Twitter fans had already made their comments. What’s the story here?

It’s been a tough year for Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston. After winning the NFL Rookie of the Year last season, Winston has had his share of off-field issues. In addition to his infamous crab legs incident last season, Winston was involved in an altercation with an Uber driver in March and has been accused of rape.

Most NFL fans don’t want to see someone hit their quarterback. However, this is not the case for fans of the New Orleans Saints. Many fans reacted positively after seeing a video on social media of the coach going after potential starting QB Jameis Winston.

If the Saints see more of what Winston showed in this video, the team might not miss legend Drew Brees as much as they expect in 2021.

The first pick in the 2015 NFL Draft spent the first five years of his career with the team that drafted him, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After a career record of 28-42 points and 30 steals in his final season, Tampa Bay fired Winston.

The New Orleans Saints have contracted the former Heisman Trophy winner from Auburn for one year, $1.1 million, through the 2020 NFL season.

It wasn’t really clear if Winston was the backup QB or the third backup QB until Brees missed four games with broken ribs and a collapsed lung. Versatile QB Taysom Hill played in Brees’ place during that time.

In total, Winston played just four games for the Saints last season, completing seven passes for 75 yards.

However, Brees retired in the offseason and the Saints signed Winston to a $5.5 million contract through 2021. Coach Sean Payton has not yet decided if he will use Hill or Winston as the starting QB for the upcoming season.

Saints’ quarterback stays focused by pushing punts back on drive

While we don’t know if Winston will be the Saints’ new QB1 in 2021, we do know that he is working hard to become one.

Recently, a video surfaced on social media showing Winston practicing. Slipping between the mannequins, Winston called out numbers. All the while, a large man with boxing gloves was aggressively hitting the ball.

The focus and strength Winston shows in the video is impressive. However, there were mixed reactions from social media users to the post about the training. Some have expressed their enthusiasm for Winston in the new season. Others, however, called the video disappointing because Winston’s hefty stature is not always visible on the football field.

Another question that has been asked by many is who is this coach that towers over the 6-foot-1 QB? The man in the video hitting Winston is his coach and former NFL quarterback, Otis Leverett. Leverett, who is 6-foot-7, played four seasons in the NFL with the Washington Football, San Diego Chargers and San Francisco 49ers from 2001 to 2004.

Leverett currently runs ModernDay Fitness in Birmingham, Alabama, and has coached and mentored Winston since he was a QB in high school, according to Bleacher Report.

Will Taysom Hill or Jameis Winston be the starter for the Saints?

Social media videos aren’t going to decide who will be the Saints’ starting quarterback. There will be a training camp. Although Payton says he hasn’t made a decision yet, it’s likely Winston will take the reins in early 2021.

According to ProFootballTalk, Winston is the clear favorite for the job. The odds for the former No. 1 pick as a center in Week 1 are -200, while the odds for Hill as a starter are +145.

If you want to make some real money, you can bet a few bucks on Notre Dame recruit Ian Book at +3300 odds.

The idea behind starting Jameis Winston is that if he is the primary center, Payton and the Saints can continue to take advantage of Hill’s unique skill set. Playing with gadgets also poses a great burden, increasing the risk of injury. An injury to the starting QB could seriously hurt the Saints’ chances of winning.
