‘I’m Telling You What I Know’

When I was very young, my father would take me to see various baseball games played in New York City and the surrounding area. I still remember the last game he took me to: The Phillies were playing the Mets at Shea Stadium.

Speaking of LeBron James, you know what he said to a fan? “I’m telling you what I know.” It’s pretty obvious that even though JR Smith is still a member of the Cavs, he’s far from being on the same level as LeBron, who is still the best player in the world.

I’m not going to pretend that I don’t play favorites. For the record, I’m a Yankees fan, and I’m not ashamed of that. I don’t cheer for the Indians, but I’m not going to turn my back on my brother. I don’t love the Packers, but I love Green Bay. I don’t love the Cowboys or the Bears, but I love my team and my city. But if you think I’m going to tell you where I stand on the Cowboys, Bears, Packers, or any other team, then you’re wrong. That’s why I’m going to tell you about the most important thing I know.. In the event that Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard wants out of Portland, Stephen A. Smith claims to have information indicating that he would seek a trade to the New York Knicks.

Stephen A. Smith isn’t usually thought of as a sports insider by the general public. His soundbites and hyperbolic command of the English language are as well-known as his sports expertise and relationships with players.

However, it’s easy to forget Smith spent almost a decade covering the Philadelphia 76ers as a beat writer. His origins are still in the acquisition of resources. Is there anything he knows about Damian Lillard that others don’t?

Damian Lillard has yet to make a trade request.

Now think about me and ask yourself the same question. For the last ten years, I’ve been completely transparent. Following the season, I never hid my feelings… Because of the current condition of the game, don’t loop me in. Bro, what you’re reporting is just not true. I’m the only one who can help you. https://t.co/CF9DM7PeS4

July 29, 2021 — Damian Lillard (@Dame Lillard)

So far, there has been much ado about nothing when it comes to Lillard’s future in Portland.

The Blazers have not sought a trade for the superstar point guard. In fact, he’s gone to Twitter to debunk rumors of private dissatisfaction. However, there is still a lot of buzz about Lillard’s possible availability.

After a fantastic season, Lillard has left little question that he is one of the greatest point guards in the NBA. Despite his brilliance, Portland has failed to provide Lillard with the components he needs to help the Blazers go over the hump in the Western Conference.

Lillard has reached a fork in the road due of his team’s lack of success. He seems to be ready to allow the Blazers make some personnel changes in order to give them a better chance in 2021-22. Nonetheless, if the Blazers continue to struggle, he may consider making a trade request again.

Lillard’s desire to be in New York is a “truth,” according to Stephen A. Smith.

On @SiriusXMNBA, Stephen A. Smith claims that although Dame Lillard has not yet requested a trade, he is aware of the situation “”I know for a fact” that if Dame were moved, “New York would be his first choice,” adding, “I’m telling you what I know.” I’m not speculating.” pic.twitter.com/kAuSp5P5ZB

Lillard’s desire to play for the Knicks remains unwavering, according to Stephen A. Smith.

On SiriusXM NBA Radio on Sunday, Smith said that he was “not guessing” when he mentioned the Knicks as Lillard’s preferred trade destination. He went on to say that Lillard would like to be in New York because it would allow him to attract stars to play in a large market rather than enticing them to come to Portland.

During an interview on The Jump on Monday afternoon, the ESPN personality doubled down, stating he would “bet the house” on Dame-to-New York if Lillard made a trade request.

Granted, it isn’t entirely about Lillard’s desires. If the Blazers decide to trade their star point guard, they will undoubtedly accept the finest offer available.

Is there enough for the Knicks to make a compelling offer?

The Knicks are in the enviable position of being able to absorb Lillard’s contract into their cap space if required. Another issue is whether New York has the resources to influence Portland.

Without RJ Barrett and significant draft capital going the other way, a Lillard deal to the Knicks is almost definitely not going to happen. New York, fortunately, has a good amount of first-round picks to select from and may sweeten the deal with pick exchanges.

Even yet, it’ll almost certainly take that much more to acquire Lillard. The Blazers may make a play for Immanuel Quickley, a promising combo guard, and it’s not out of the question that they attempt to get Mitchell Robinson as well.

Despite this, the Knicks will be able to add to their squad via free agency. Some of the players they sign this summer may end up being trade components in a blockbuster for Lillard in the future.

For the time being, though, New York would have to come up with a massive package including young players and draft money.
