Joe Burrow, the quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, has exploded in his second season in the NFL. After a four-touchdown effort from Burrow against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16, Cincinnati now sits atop the AFC North for the time being.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes are up next, and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo gushed about the former LSU star ahead of the Week 17 meeting.

In Week 16, Joe Burrow thrashed the Baltimore Ravens and continues to amaze.

For the second time this season, Burrow and the Bengals thrashed the Ravens. Yes, Baltimore’s defense is thin, with Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley both missing the game.

Burrow, on the other hand, was incredible. As the Bengals raced to a 41-21 advantage, he threw for 525 yards on 37-of-46 passing with four touchdowns and no interceptions.

This is the newest work of the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2020, who tore his ACL in his debut season. Burrow has passed for 4,165 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions this season, putting Cincinnati on the verge of winning the AFC North.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, are a serious danger, particularly given Mahomes and company have rebounded from early-season troubles to win eight straight games and reclaim the AFC West title.

Burrow, as terrific as he was in college at LSU, has been even better in the early stages of his NFL career. He’s a strong candidate for Comeback Player of the Year, and he and former LSU colleague JaMarr Chase have a great friendship.

In Week 17, the Bengals face the Chiefs, and Spagnuolo praised the Bengals’ rookie quarterback (h/t Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star).

“I see a young Tom Brady,” says the observer.

Joe Burrow on Steve Spagnuolo

You’re doing something good when you’re compared to Tom Brady. Burrow is in his second season in the league and his first full season.

It’s unusual to be mentioned in the same breath as Brady. The Kansas City defensive coach has seen plenty of Brady, notably during the historic New England Patriots defeat to the New York Giants in the David Tyree catch game, when Spagnuolo was the Giants’ defensive coordinator.

Spagnuolo wasn’t the only Chiefs player who spoke about Burrow. Following Kansas City’s Week 16 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mahomes was well aware of Burrow’s outstanding performance.

Burrow’s popularity is at an all-time high, particularly following his second-half thrashing of the Ravens this season.

Will Joe Burrow be able to lead the Bengals to a postseason berth and an AFC North championship?

Six of the AFC’s seven postseason positions might be sealed this week, according to certain scenarios.

With a victory against the Chiefs OR a Ravens loss (to the Rams) and a Steelers draw, the Bengals can clinch the AFC North (vs. Browns).

The Bengals seemed to be a long shot to win the AFC North title at the start of the season. In 2020, the Pittsburgh Steelers won the AFC North before falling in the Wild Card round to the Cleveland Browns.

The Ravens appeared threatening at the start of the season before suffering through a difficult patch recently. The Bengals are now in command of the AFC North, despite the fact that the division is a shambles.

The Chiefs-Bengals game seems to be one of, if not the most, important games of the weekend. What more could you want for than Mahomes vs. Burrow, Chase and Tee Higgins versus. Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce?
