The Open Event, the oldest major championship in golf, has brought the best players in the world to the renowned Old Course at St. Andrews on thirty times. Since Tom Kidd became the first person to win The Open at St. Andrews in 1873, several of golf’s top players have taken home the Claret Jug at the birthplace of the game.
On the Old Course, John Henry Taylor won two of his five Open Championship victories. In 1927, Bobby Jones triumphed at St. Andrews. Sam Snead claimed victory in the first Open in 1946, after a six-year hiatus brought on by World War II. On “The Old Lady,” Jack Nicklaus triumphed in 1970 and 1978. In 1995, John Daly won a thrilling playoff on the Old Course to win his second major championship. At St. Andrews in 2000, Tiger Woods beat Faldo’s record to complete the career Grand Slam. Five years later, he won major number 10 with another exhilarating display on the Old Course. The list is endless.
The fact that the Old Course at St. Andrews is open to the public is one of its many lovely qualities. Therefore, anybody is welcome to go to Scotland and play on these revered courses, so long as they can demonstrate that they have a 36 handicap or below. And the price isn’t as high as you may imagine.
How much does it cost to play on St. Andrews’ Old Course?

Tee times at the Old Course at St. Andrews are difficult to come by, as you would expect. But if you’re fortunate enough to get one, be prepared to spend £270, or slightly over $320. From April 18 through October 16, 2022, it will be the highest rate. In contrast, a game of golf in Pebble Beach costs around $600.
The Old Course at St. Andrews charges £190 ($225.50) per round during the two-week shoulder season from October 17 to 31. It decreases much more between November 1 and March 31 to £135, or little more than $160. Of course, caddies come with an additional charge.
Additionally, St. Andrews offers six other courses to play if you are unable to acquire a spot on the Old Course.
