Golden State Warriors Could Have a Bold Plan for Their Lottery Pick

The NBA Draft Lottery is approaching, and the Golden State Warriors could be looking at a very interesting situation. It is no secret that the Warriors are actively looking to trade Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Harrison Barnes, but because of the way the NBA Draft Lottery works, that will have little to no effect on their ultimate draft pick.

The NBA Draft Lottery is tonight, and the odds are in favor of the Golden State Warriors getting the first overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. But, if they want to, they could have a good plan in place for what they’re going to do with it.

On June 19th, the Golden State Warriors will have the chance to draft the Lakers’ first round draft pick. But things could get a little crazy if the Warriors choose to trade that pick.

For the second year in a row, the Golden State Warriors are in the top half of the NBA Draft. When the Minnesota Timberwolves failed to make the top three, the Warriors got Minnesota’s first player. So with #7 and #14, Golden State has two options in the first half.

At least for now.

According to reports, the Warriors are still in the hunt for a win and want the seventh pick to get the veteran. This idea is not uncommon.

The Golden State Warriors still have achance open.

The Golden State Warriors failed to make the playoffs for the second season in a row. They had a chance, but the Warriors missed two chances to make the postseason. First, Golden State lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in a battle for seventh place in the inaugural play-in tournament. Later, the Memphis Grizzlies came to San Francisco and snatched the No. 8 spot away from the Warriors.

Despite the sudden playoff drought, there are still things on the roster that suggest the Dubs still have a window open. The fourth championship of the Stephen Curry-Draymond Green-Clay Thompson core team will be critical for everyone.

Curry is back after a disappointing 2019-20 season after having a fantastic campaign. Averaging 32.0 points per game, he won his second award for top scorer. Although the Warriors did not make the playoffs, Curry was a finalist for the MVP award. He finished third behind winner Nikola Jokic and runner-up Joel Embiid.

In the Warriors’ 2015/16 season (73 wins), Green never came close to his 38.8 percent shooting percentage at the basket. However, he is still a top defender and Golden State can still run their offense through him. Thompson is an X-factor. After two consecutive absences due to injuries, he is back (knock on wood). Thompson is in the top 15 three-point shooters of all time with 41.9 percent, so his return to the lineup is crucial to a possible title run.

What can get the Warriors over the hump and what are they willing to sacrifice to get there? These are critical questions before the NBA stupid season begins.

It looks like choice #7 is definitely on the table, as well as the surprise choice.

It’s no surprise that the Golden State Warriors are prone to dropping a top-10 pick. Your spine’s out of shape. In order not to lose this window, it is wise to win now.

In a surprising move, the Warriors are reportedly ready to get the No. 7 pick. Last year, they picked Memphis big man James Wiseman to be the runner-up in 2020. Wiseman has impressed despite the micro-wave offseason, the lack of summer league and the delay in COVID-19 protocol.

He started 27 games before tearing his right meniscus in April. Before last season, the Warriors thought he would be the part around which they would rebuild. That was until Curry got hotter and hotter.

John Hollinger of The Athletic recently speculated about the possibility of acquiring the veteran via Wiseman’s No. 7 package.

Who can catch Golden State with Curry and the gang?

The Golden State Warriors will likely want a big wing or another big defender if they include Wiseman in the deal.

Hollinger suggested that Pascal Siakam, who was once the NBA’s best player with the Toronto Raptors, would be a good fit for the Warriors. Siakam has been unable to hit 3-pointers this season as the Raptors have struggled in Tampa. After seasons of 36.9% and 35.9% from deep, Siakam dropped to 29.7% when Toronto was out of the running.

He still averaged 21.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game and handed out 4.5 assists per night. The downside for Siakam is that he won’t be back after his labrum surgery until November at the earliest.

Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area had a different goal in mind. Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers has led the NBA in blocked shots in two of the last three seasons. Last year, he shot 3.4 times per game. Golden State needs an edge rusher. Despite all of Wiseman’s opportunities, he was averaging just 1.6 blocks per 36 minutes last season. The 36-year-old Turner score was 3.9.

Turner is also much cheaper. He has two years left on his contract, which is worth $18 million per season. Siakam has three years and $100.92 million left on the contract extension he signed after his best campaign of 2018-19.

The Golden State Warriors are in a terrible gray area between continuing to rebuild and trying to give the core of the league another chance at glory. But less than a year ago, Wiseman was a future in Golden State. Does it then become a means to an end in the quest for a title?

However, they finished the season with a sub-500 record, according to the league’s tiebreaker formula. There is no doubt that the Warriors are the best team in the NBA, but the NBA Draft Lottery uses a weighted system that only takes into account regular-season record. That means the Warriors have the opportunity to boost their chances of landing the No. 1 pick in the draft.. Read more about who will warriors draft 2021 and let us know what you think.
