Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis Trash-Talked Kevin Garnett and Needed Some Advice From His Mother to Avoid an Awkward Situation

Last night, the Clippers embarrassed the Timberwolves and proved that they are the real deal. By the time that Kevin Garnett came to the offense, the Clippers were up 19 points. He finally got involved in the offense and he was called for a foul. It was called on the first possession of the game. (The Timberwolves lost by 25.) Garnett was called for two fouls in five minutes. That’s a lot of foul calls. For the year, Kevin Garnett has been called for 3.3 fouls per 36 minutes.

In January, Chicago Bulls star forward Kevin Garnett had an emotional falling out with coach Tom Thibodeau, and the story went international when Garnett told the Associated Press that he had been “manhandled” by the Bulls coach.

In our ESPY Awards coverage, we mentioned that Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis took to Twitter to trash Kevin Garnett’s mom, but got the last word of advice from his own mother, who had a little to say about Davis’ trash talking.

While almost every professional athlete is a tough competitor, Kevin Garnett went above and beyond the norm. The forward had a lot of trash language in his arsenal, but it wasn’t all directed at his foes. Teammates might feel KG’s fury, as Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis experienced during his time with the Boston Celtics.

Davis made the mistake of trash-talking Garnett early in his NBA career, and he ended himself on the wrong side of the NBA veteran. When Big Baby was faced with a difficult issue, he turned to the source of all good advice: his mother.

Glen Davis and Kevin Garnett both signed with the Boston Celtics at various times in their careers.

It’s easy to imagine NBA teammates being in the same situation from afar. In reality, each athlete is in a different stage in their life and profession. For instance, consider Davis and Garnett’s tenure with the Boston Celtics.

After finishing his third season at LSU, Big Baby joined the professional ranks in 2007. He was selected with the 35th overall selection by the Seattle Supersonics, but he was soon traded to the Boston Celtics. Davis would have the opportunity to start his NBA career there, proving that he was more than just a huge physique capable of crushing collegiate opponents.

Garnett, on the other hand, came to the Celtics as a seasoned veteran in July 2007. While the Big Ticket had crushed the competition in Minnesota, even earning the 2004 NBA MVP award, he was forced to join a struggling team. His trade was difficult, but it allowed him to pursue that elusive championship ring as a member of Boston’s Big Three.

Glen Davis made the mistake of trash-talking The Big Ticket before attempting to make amends.

Despite the fact that Davis and Garnett were at opposing ends of the NBA food chain, they had to play together. However, during their early days in Boston, the two didn’t always agree.

“It was my first day of hooping, and we were playing pickup,” says the player. ‘OK, cool, I’m out here,’ I say. ‘I’ve arrived.’ I grab a jump shot, hit it, and then I just leave it up like, “Get up, yes.” Davis stated on fubo Sports’ No Chill that he was talking to himself. “‘The f— you talkingin’ to?’” [Garnett] exclaimed.

Davis stated that he was just trying to get his swag on and had no intention of offending anybody. Garnett, on the other hand, was uninterested. “‘F— your swag!” he exclaims. Big Baby remembered something. “I’m like, ‘F— your swag!’” says the speaker.

The youngster worried the encounter would lose him his place on the team, but he never received that call. Instead, he had to endure an uncomfortable encounter with KG, who refused to recognize him at the team’s facilities.

Davis added, “Swear to God, buddy, [Garnett] comes in and doesn’t even say anything to me.” “At the same time, I was conversing with my mother. ‘Go to him and say, you know, you know, guy, keep it on the floor,’ my mother said. ‘Please accept my apologies.’

Big Baby took the plunge after breakfast. He approached the veteran, apologized, and looked him in the eyes. Despite his harsh language and passion, Garnett appreciated the gesture.

“He was like, ‘You nice, little fella,’” says the narrator. “I began to chuckle. Then he said, ‘You’re good.’ I’ve figured it out. Don’t be concerned about anything.’ It was inseparable after that.”

Staying on Kevin Garnett’s good side was probably a smart idea.

Maintaining positive relationships with your colleagues is usually a good idea. Being on the same page as a colleague like Kevin Granet, on the other hand, is definitely more essential.

Take, for example, the anecdote KG once told about a meeting he had with Rajon Rondo. Garnett chewed out the point guard after a couple turnovers without rehashing the whole issue. They then exchanged words before Rondo rejected The Big Ticket’s offer of a cup of water during a time-out huddle.

The guard, on the other hand, was thirsty and took his own cup. Rondo had a coughing attack since the water had gone down the incorrect pipe.

“So I kind of glance over to him, and he’s motioning to his back. I’m like, ‘Nah, choke,’ and I’m like, ‘Nah, choke.’ Choke… Kill, no way. Kill yourself, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, ‘Death, Death!’ In a TBS Storyville video, KG remembered. “As I speak, the huddle is still in progress. Everyone is staring at us. I told him, ‘When someone says pass the ball, pass the ball,’ because he was choking.

Thankfully for Big Baby, he was able to diffuse his conflict with the experienced forward.
