Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Greek Freak, is one of the most talented players in the NBA today. He has been a key member of the Milwaukee Bucks team that has made it to the playoffs every year since his arrival in 2014.
Giannis Antetokounmpo has been a dominant force in the NBA since he entered the league in 2013. He is one of the most versatile players in the league, and his skills have led to him being considered as one of the best players in basketball. Read more in detail here: giannis antetokounmpo deal.
Antetokounmpo, Giannis of the Milwaukee Bucks continues to be a breath of fresh air in an age when so many athletes appear to work on the idea that “there is no ‘I’ in ‘team,’ but there is a’me’ if you rearrange the letters a bit.” You can’t turn around without encountering a GOAT argument or the perennial “greatest player in the world” debate. Despite two MVP honors, a Finals MVP, and a gleaming new championship ring, Antetokounmpo’s perspective on who is the greatest player in the world is refreshing.
As reigning champs, Antetokounmpo and the Bucks aren’t receiving much love. Before the last confetti dropped from the Fiserv Forum rafters in July, oddsmakers were predicting that two other teams would be stronger chances to win in 2022. Giannis, on the other hand, does not seem to be bothered by the slights. Instead, he goes out and performs what he does best, which is typically at a very high level. Despite this, in all of the discussions, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and other players get the majority of the attention.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s NBA Finals breakthrough is legendary.
The Phoenix Suns didn’t have much size to throw against Giannis Antetokounmpo in the NBA Finals, apart from Deandre Ayton. When Dario ari went down in Game 1 after just two minutes, the Suns had even less.
This was exploited by the Bucks. They passed the ball to Giannis and moved out of the way. Phoenix wasn’t helpless against him, but he came close. In the Finals, Antetokounmpo averaged 35.2 points per game, including a 50-point, 14-rebound performance in Game 6 that featured hitting 17-of-19 free throws.
The championship run came after Antetokounmpo and the Bucks had back-to-back MVP seasons that ended in disappointment. Milwaukee completed the regular season with the best record in the NBA in both 2018–19 and 2019–20. In the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals, the Toronto Raptors ruined the party. With a second-round upset in Orlando in 2020, the Miami Heat popped the Bucks’ bubble.
Even with the honors, Antetokounmpo seems unconcerned about the recognition. Even legendary ones aren’t immune.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was asked about becoming the greatest player in the world during an interview with the Greek television station COSMOTE TV (per Eurohoops). His response was insightful and reflected his constant sense of being the underdog.
“Being a hunter is something I like doing. I am not the world’s greatest player. I assure you, I am not! KD, LeBron, Kawhi Leonard, Luka Doni, Stephen Curry, and Anthony Davis are all possible candidates. I’m not one of them. I’m still on the lookout for the all-time greats. LeBron James remains the greatest player in the planet.”
The decision to award the championship to LeBron James is a departure from his role throughout the playoffs, when he tried in vain to stop Durant when the Bucks faced the Brooklyn Nets in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
At the time, Antetokounmpo proclaimed Durant to be the greatest player in the world. But it may be chalked up as a spur-of-the-moment occurrence. After all, the greatest stumbling block is always there in front of you.
For an unreasonably long time, LeBron James has been mentioned.
LeBron James was drafted into the NBA at the age of 18, fresh out of high school, and earned his first NBA MVP award at the age of 24. He’s still playing at a high level, despite the fact that he’s 37 years old.
In 33.4 minutes per game last season, James averaged 25.0 points, 7.8 assists, and 7.7 rebounds. He did, however, miss 27 games due to an ankle ailment, the second time in three years he has lost substantial time due to an injury.
Is he still the world’s greatest player? Given the impossibility of quantifying the question, the only practical response is maybe. Right now, Durant seems to be the people’s champion (at least among the loudest of the talking heads). We’re probably just a few years away from seeing the debate become global.
For a while, Antetokounmpo will be mentioned. He’s already played in the NBA for eight seasons, but he won’t be 27 until December. Doni, who turns 23 in February, just inked a rookie extension.
When James and Durant decline, they are the most probable candidates to be at the top of the list.
And, given Giannis Antetokounmpo’s track record, he’ll almost certainly tell us it’s Luka. It seems that this is how he works.
