Like most of the athletes on the Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul Undercard, Chad Johnson’s likely opponent has yet to be determined. But we did find out something about him. He’s a former cast member of the VH1 reality show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. The show followed several celebrities as they got treatment for addiction issues. Johnson—best known as a contestant on the reality show The Bachelorette in 2010—has had an addiction history. He was arrested in 2009 for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Johnson has also been arrested three times for battery, and once for resisting a police officer.
Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul are two of the biggest names in boxing and MMA, respectively, both of which are making the move to the other side of the ring. Both have previously faced men very small in stature, but that’s not stopping Mayweather from taking a step up in class. While the former five-division world champion has been busy training for his upcoming fight with Paul, he’s still yet to finalize his opponent for the Showtime PPV card on August 26.
It has been a big week for Chad Johnson. Though he was not on the card for the Mayweather and Paul fight, Johnson was as vocal as ever in his displeasure. Chad’s Twitter timeline was packed with tweets about the fight and his displeasure with the relationship between Floyd Mayweather and Paul. Johnson also got into a Twitter debate with a fan that questioned why he was not on the card, as if somehow the fight producers were purposely trying to keep him off to avoid him saying something controversial. It is not known if Johnson will be on the card for the McGregor vs. Mayweather fight.
Brian Maxwell may not be the most famous fighter on earth, but when he takes on the six-time Pro Bowl winner in Floyd Mayweather’s fight against Logan Paul in Miami on Sunday night, he’s sure to attract attention. Most of the attention in this four-round practice fight went to Johnson, who was one of the NFL’s most popular players at the height of his career and now, at the age of 43, is making his boxing debut. But as they say: It takes two to tango, and Maxwell, who has more experience in MMA than boxing, knows the impact this fight could have on his career. So who is Brian Maxwell and how did he get to such a high position? Let’s see.
Brian Maxwell has a 2-3 record in professional MMA fights
Brian Maxwell weighs in for his fight with Chad Johnson. Born in Virginia in August 1987, Maxwell grew up wrestling but didn’t know much about MMA until his college roommate introduced him to the UFC in the mid-2000s. But it wasn’t until 2011, when he learned he had a son, that he really decided to take up the fight. He spent some time in prison, decided it was time to do something with his life, and within 24 hours of signing up with Ruckus in the Cage, an amateur MMA promoter in West Virginia, his first fight was scheduled. Over the next few years, Maxwell amassed an amateur record of 10-6 with an uncounted loss in several promotions before making his professional wrestling debut in September 2016 at the age of 29. He lost his first two fights, but finally picked up his first win in August 2018 at Elite Challenge 18, where he defeated Ryan Parker in just 1 minute and 36 seconds in the first round. Maxwell lost via knockout in November, but came back in June 2018 to defeat Eric Ellerbee with a rear-naked choke in the first round.
He has an 0-3 record in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship
. Maxwell made his Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) debut in October 2019, but was knocked out by Jared Warren at 1:59 of the first round. He then suffered another first round knockout loss to BKFC 10 of Ulysses Diaz after 1:13 in the first round. At the BKFC Toe the Line 1 tournament in September 2020, Maxwell went the distance in a five-round fight against Ti Cummins, but lost via unanimous decision. He then appeared in a live boxing match for the Signature Punch Management promotion in Miami in February 2021, losing to Gaspar Pierre by knockout in the second round. While Maxwell doesn’t have the best win-loss record in MMA, boxing and the like, he clearly has a lot more fighting experience than the man formerly known as Chad Ochocinco. And how did the fight go?
UFC star Jorge Masvidal helped arrange Brian Maxwell’s fight against Chad Johnson
. In a recent interview with James Lynch on his Lynch on Sports podcast (you can watch the clip above), Maxwell was asked if he had any idea how his name came up as a possible opponent for Johnson, and he revealed that Johnson himself told him on the phone (apparently the two have communicated on multiple occasions) that it was actually UFC star Jorge Masvidal who brought it up. We talked and he said my name came from Jorge Masvidal and someone else. I was like this: What? Really? How do they know me? It shocked me. Brian Maxwell Maxwell has apparently accepted the offer and says he’s preparing for the Johnson fight like any other fight. But he thinks no one really wants him to win because, again, Ochocinco is a loser. But he also knows that he is a more experienced fighter, and although the win will not count towards his professional record, as this fight is designated as a special exhibition fight, he is confident that the win will lead him to more success. Now we just have to wait and see how it goes. The event begins on Showtime pay-per-view at 7 p.m. Easter. Battle results courtesy of TapologyFormer football player Chad Johnson’s boxing debut was originally scheduled for March 11th of this year.
