Rodman’s list is an annual feature where he highlights the top 4 people in a given location or profession. Who are the four people he chose for 2013? That’s easy: Tony Parker, Pau Gasol, Thierry Henry, and… Rodman. Why?
Dennis Rodman is a retired professional basketball player who played 16 years in the NBA. He played for two teams that are now worth billions of dollars: the Houston Rockets for 12 years and the Detroit Pistons for 4 years. At the time of retirement he was the highest-paid player in NBA history, and had the most rebounds and assists in a single game (22). In spite of the fact that Rodman was paid nearly $30 million in his last NBA season, he was criticized for giving up millions upon millions in endorsements in order to play basketball full-time.At least Dennis Rodman didn’t make the top of the list. Rodman was a wild child in the NBA during his 14-year career, but he also contributed to five league titles with the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons. Rodman was not only one of the most recognizable faces in the league, he was considered one of the five most recognizable people on the planet. In 2013, he placed four impressive people before him on that list.

Rodman did things his way. Whether he’s dyeing his hair or fleeing to Las Vegas during the NBA season, he’s doing what he wants. Despite all the distractions, Rodman was always there when it mattered. He was the league’s top rebounder seven seasons in a row, despite his undersized height for the NBA (6-foot-1).
Rodman retired from the game in 2000. Despite his retirement, he has always managed to stay in the limelight. In an interview with Sports Illustrated in 2013, he said he was still one of the most talked about people in the world, especially after his famous trip to North Korea to meet leader Kim Jong Un.
I haven’t had a job in years, but people are talking about me more now than ever, he said. I do all these incredible, historic things and the public can’t believe that it’s really Dennis Rodman and not Madonna or Oprah or anyone else. It’s Dennis Rodman!
Rodman’s friend, James Davis, put it simply. I’m amazed at how Dennis stays in the spotlight. It’s all organic. Dennis is not going to sit back and figure out ways to cause controversy. The contradictions find him. She’s the new Jane Fonda.
Rodman has never been shy about speaking out for his opinions. He was never afraid to do the unthinkable, as evidenced by the occasion when he wore a wedding dress to get married. He also married Carmen Electra and dated Madonna. He is a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Rodman is very well known, and he has never hidden that.
If you had to rank the 10 most famous people on the planet, I would be number 5, he said in an interview with SI in 2013. I would place myself right after God, Jesus, Muhammad Ali, and Barack Obama.
There was a slight hitch in his fifth place finish that could have catapulted him to the top of the list.
But take away the first four bodyguards and the entourage, put them on a busy street in New York, and I bet no one will recognize them, he said. They’d recognize me even if I wasn’t trying to stand out.
Maybe it’s the blue hair or the many piercings on her body. Maybe it’s because he does things his way. Whatever the reason, Rodman has always been considered misunderstood. Jeanie Bass, the current owner of the Los Angeles Lakers who took over the team after the death of her father Jerry, can vouch for Rodman’s emotional and caring nature.
When Jerry Bass died, Rodman was by Jeanie’s side.
We cried together, Jeanie said. Dennis was like family to my father. They had a special relationship that meant a lot to my father. It really had nothing to do with basketball. It was touching.
He is very intelligent and knows how to assess situations well. People too easily see only the surface. I must say that sometimes Dennis dresses in such a way that people are distracted and can’t hear him.
Rodman’s list is more than eight years old. Maybe it’s time for an update to see if it’s evolved.
