Chris Sale Reveals His Bizarre Good Luck Charm – a ‘Daddy Long Neck’ Shirt

A few days ago, Chris Sale revealed on social media that he has a bizarre good luck charm – a shirt with the body of a snake, a man’s head and a tail, and a price tag on the back that says “Daddy Long Neck” – which he has worn to every Opening Day game since he joined the Boston Red Sox in 2016.

Chris Sale has the kind of statistics that are nearly unattainable for a starting pitcher. He’s one of the truly elite pitchers in the league, and his performance this year is even more remarkable considering the Red Sox recently made him their highest paid player. But for Sale the numbers don’t just come from his on the field performance; they’re also a result of his odd superstition. He’s a fan of the late Steve Genn, a former baseball player who was known for wearing a shirt containing a large necktie.

Chris Sale is a Boston Red Sox pitcher who, thanks to his long neck, is famous for his ability to reach the top of a pitcher’s mound to throw a baseball.

Chris Sale has been having a terrible run of luck. Following Tommy John surgery, the Boston Red Sox pitcher looks to be on his way back to the major leagues. Sale just finished his fourth rehab start and still has one more to go before returning to Fenway Park.

With the assistance of his good luck charm, Sale may not have been able to return to the majors. If you’re not familiar with social media stars, you’ll have no clue what we’re talking about when we say “good luck charm.”

In March of 2020, Chris Sale had Tommy John surgery.

The last time Sale pitched in the major leagues was in 2019. Personally, the hard-throwing left-hander had a terrible season, going 6-11 and having his season cut short due to elbow issues. In 25 starts, he had the worst season of his career, with a 4.40 ERA. He finished in the top five votes for the Cy Young Award in each of the previous six seasons.

It was his first serious injury in his professional career. He had never before missed any substantial time.

“This was the first time in my career that I faced a genuine difficulty or a real obstacle. A serious injury has occurred. According to ESPN, Sale stated in February, “I’ve never missed a year.” “I’ve been absent for a month. I’ve been absent for a few weeks here and then. However, this was the first significant event. I know that on the other side of this, my mindset, what I’ve done physically, what I’ve learned about my body, and the things I need to mentally prepare myself for, I simply have to be tougher.”

On Saturday, Sale had his fourth rehab start, allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven and walking one batter. On the radar gun, he reached 96 mph and threw 81 pitches.

Sale talked to the reporters outside Polar Park after his five-inning outing in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Saturday. The majority of the inquiries focused on his excursion and how he was feeling. One couldn’t help but notice his clothing as he was speaking, which prompted an off-topic inquiry.

Sale was dressed in a bright tank top with Daddy Long Neck, a popular social media figure. David Samuelson Jr., aka Daddy Long Neck, suffers from the uncommon disease Marfan Syndrome, which stops him from gaining weight. He’s taken advantage of this by filming himself flashing off without a shirt.

Daddy Long Neck has a sizable fan base. On Instagram, he has 1.8 million followers, and on TikTok, he has 4.5 million. In Sale, he now has a new admirer.

Sale is frail, but not frail enough. He stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 183 pounds. “He may be the only guy in the nation who can make me feel jacked,” Sale laughed when questioned about the shirt.

Sale revealed that he wears the shirt to every game and bullpen session.

Sale is on his way back to the Boston Red Sox.

Sale last pitched in a major league game on August 13, 2019. He’ll make one more start at Triple-A later this week before the club decides what to do with him.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora discussed Sale’s plans before Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Cora told ESPN, “We’ll re-address the issue after (his next start), but he’s getting close.” “We’ll take it as it comes.” Sale “felt fantastic” following his previous outing, according to Cora.

Sale might be a huge boost for Boston, which has lost four of its previous five games before Sunday’s contest.

At the very least, the rest of the Red Sox should wear Daddy Long Neck shirts while attempting to right the ship.
