Lockpicking is a fascinating hobby for a variety of reasons, but the biggest one may be that it’s never really gone through any major changes since its conception. The tools and techniques have remained the same, with only minor tweaks here and there. That said, there are still a few tricks that have never been published in any book or tutorial, and these are my personal favorites.

I recently learned about a fascinating hobby, one that’s been around for centuries, but is so little known that it’s essential to learn about, if you want to be a serious lockpicker. I’m going to tell you what you need to know to start your search, and give you a few pointers to help you along the way.

Craft lockpicks! They’re one of the most fascinating things about spy movies… and they’re pretty useful, too. Not only can you open locked doors, but you can unlock safes, pry open suitcases, pick locks, and even unlock the window in your car, if you’re desperate enough. It’s sort of a hobby of mine, and I’ve got a couple of tricks down that make it easier to open locks… but I’ve never written a post about it before. Until now!

The Exclusion Zone around Chernobyl is dilapidated and depressing simply to look at, and living in it may be difficult at times, particularly if you don’t know how to make lockpicks.

Lockpicks are one of the most valuable commodities in the game, but they’re hard to come by in the open world, so you’ll have to make your own to get the most out of each task. In Chernobylite, here’s how to make lockpicks.

You may customize your living environment, create items, and train with your friends to acquire new, essential abilities at your base. You may access your crafting menu at any moment by pressing the B key on your keyboard or the back button on your controller, then scrolling through the menus in the following order:

  • Igor’s Inventory>Crafting Tools>Industrial Grinder

You’ll need to create this tool if you wish to be able to make lockpicks at will. To make the Industrial Grinder, you’ll need the following materials:

  • 4 Mechanical Components
  • 8 Electronic Components
  • 4 Flammable Components

These and other things may be discovered in every level of the game, so collect as much as you can and take it home with you. Choose where you want the grinder to go after you have enough components, then put it inside your foundation.

You may then create lockpicks as frequently as your inventory permits. Lockpicks have their own cost in terms of resources. What you’ll need is the following:

  • 2 Mechanical Components
  • a single chemical

You’re likely to come across three or four locations where lockpicks may be utilized on any given assignment. It may be a closed wooden door, a locked metal door, or even merchants roaming the Exclusion Zone who are looking for one and ready to barter.

Similarly, certain merchants may trade them back to you, but these are few and few between, so it’s preferable to start each quest with at least three lockpicks if you can manufacture them.

It’s also worth mentioning that passive abilities from your friends may help you increase things like resource prices and the quantity of resources you discover. Tarakan has a talent called Saving that lowers the cost of any made item, and Mikhail can increase the amount of any resource you discover when you locate it.

Food rations, resource caches, and even clues that can help you uncover further narrative threads on your investigations board in Igor’s bedroom are often hidden behind closed doors. This is why, in our opinion, lockpicks are one of the most essential things in the game.

It’s critical to strike a balance between your friends’ health and your own, and utilizing lockpicks when they’re needed is a quick way to fill their stomachs or line your pockets with ammunition. Check out our Chernobylite review for additional information.
