The Atlanta Falcons have built up one of the most impressive rosters in all of sports, and as a result they continue to be near the top of the rankings year after year. However, the only thing that matters to the Falcons obviously is making the Super Bowl, and they are making it clear they will not rest until they do. The NFL Draft can provide the key to taking a team from good to great, and this year is no exception. The team is expected to draft Alabama wide receiver Calvin Ridley, and he should be an immediate upgrade over the now departed receiver, Julio Jones. The drafting of Ridley to replace Jones will allow the Falcons to maintain their dominant level of play, and the signing of Devonta Freeman in free agency should push the

Julio Jones has been one of the best receivers in the NFL since his arrival in 2011, but he really hasn’t had to do anything special to rack up the points at the end of the game. The Falcons’ $71 million man has averaged 17.6 points per game, down from his 24.7 in his first three seasons. More than that, though, Jones has been surrounded by one of the NFL’s worst supporting casts over that time span.

Julio Jones is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL, and he will remain so for the foreseeable future. But over the past few years, the Falcons have gotten downright stingy with their cap dollars, and Julio is simply one of the only players on the roster that could reasonably be considered a sure-fire starter… or he was, until the Falcons signed a new wide receiver this offseason.. Calvin Ridley of the Atlanta Falcons is in good shape and eager to prove himself as one of the finest wide receivers in the league. He’s also ready to dethrone Julio Jones as the No. 1 receiver in 2021 and make a lot of fantasy football managers happy.

Ridley had offseason foot surgery and will likely seek to improve on a fantastic 2019 season in 2020, particularly with the Falcons expecting him to take over as Matt Ryan’s No. 1 receiver.

For all intents and purposes, Ridley has already supplanted Jones as Atlanta’s top receiver for the 2020 season.

Jones was only able to play in nine games due to injury, but Ridley put up massive statistics. He caught 91 passes for 1,374 yards and nine touchdowns on 91 catches. The yardage total was equal for sixth in the NFL, and Ridley led the league with 91.6 receiving yards per game.

Ridley had his finest season ever, which is impressive given he played with discomfort for the most of the season.

According to ESPN’s Michael Rothstein, Ridley claimed his foot was “not good” last year, but that it is now healthy after an offseason surgery and rehab.

“I was very concerned about myself throughout the offseason,” Ridley told Rothstein. “But now, doing the surgery was the greatest thing I could have done, and it truly helped.”

If a healthy Ridley outperforms his 2020 expectations and rookie Kyle Pitts plays up to the predraft hype, the Falcons may be deadly on offense.

Julio Jones has left a lot of huge shoes to fill.

Julio Jones may not have parted ways with the Falcons on the greatest of terms, but no one can dispute what he achieved there.

At his prime, Jones was perhaps the greatest wide receiver in the NFL. In his ten seasons with the Falcons, he was selected to seven Pro Bowls, including two All-Pro honors in 2015 and 2016.

The former Alabama standout had one of his best seasons ever in 2015. Jones had the most catches (136), receiving yards (1,871), and yards from scrimmage in the NFL. His height, speed, and route-running skill combined to make him one of football’s most unstoppable forces.

Jones was also responsible for some of the most memorable events in Falcons history. In Week 4 of the 2016 season, he went on a 300-yard receiving spree and scored a touchdown. Jones’ sideline catch is one of the greatest in NFL history, despite the Falcons’ failure in the Super Bowl later that year.

Jones, in summary, leaves an illustrious legacy in Atlanta. He ranks 20th in receiving yards and 29th in receptions all-time. Will Ridley be able to match Jones’ output as he develops his own Falcons resume?

Calvin Ridley’s fantasy football potential is intriguing.

With Jones out of the picture, Ridley becomes Atlanta’s No. 1 man right away. The Falcons will most certainly want to make Pitts a primary weapon in the offense, but Ridley will likely take up the most of Jones’ targets.

The 26-year-old is being treated with respect by fantasy football managers. Ridley had an average draft position of No. 23 overall as of Friday, according to Fantasy Pros, making him the No. 7 wide receiver in fantasy football.

Calvin Ridley has already established himself as one of fantasy football’s top wideouts. When the dust settles on the 2021 season, a healthy Calvin Ridley may be the NFL’s top receiver.
