This past Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs were on their way to a loss against the Oakland Raiders. With less than two minutes left in regulation with no timeouts remaining and trailing by 2 points, Patrick Mahomes fumbled for – what would be considered an insurmountable amount of yards for most quarterbacks- but not this one.
The “patrick mahomes injury update” is a story that has been making headlines across the country. Patrick Mahomes was injured in the first half of the Chiefs game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, but he will be back for the Chiefs next game against the New York Jets on December 23rd.
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs’ season in 2021 was on the verge of collapsing. Even though they defeated the New York Giants 20-17 on Monday Night Football, the final score doesn’t reflect how close the game was to going the other way for Kansas City.
Because a victory is a win, Mahomes and the rest of his teammates will not apologize. In the NFL, a tight victory against a weak team is still remarkable. After all, the other men get paid, and the Giants were unquestionably up to the task.
After a very poor start to the 2021 NFL season, the Chiefs finished the game with a 4-4 record, eventually getting back to.500.
The Chiefs, once considered a Super Bowl contender, are today battling for their NFL survival. They’ll live to fight another day, but late in the game on Monday night, things came perilously close to unraveling on them.
Even though the Chiefs won, they still have a lot of problems.
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs were bailed out by the New York Giants.
Oh my, Patrick Mahomes throws a 14-yard pass to Travis Kelce for a first down, and Giants LB Tae Crowder gets called for a facemask penalty…

Late in the fourth quarter, the Giants seemed to have the Chiefs just where they wanted them.
A holding penalty on Orlando Brown Jr. gave the Chiefs a 1st-and-20 on their own 19-yard line with the game tied at 17. On the following play, New York CB Darnay Holmes intercepted Mahomes at the 34-yard line after stepping in front of a slightly sloppy downfield ball.
For the Giants, it seemed to be a game-winning play, as they would have been able to drain the time in Kansas City territory and shoot for a winning field goal or better. There was, of course, a penalty on the play. Before the snap, Oshane Ximines was penalized for an offsides penalty, thereby ending New York’s chances.
One may argue that the penalty cost the Giants the game, but their destiny was sealed on the following play. Mahomes connected with Travis Kelce for a 13-yard touchdown pass, and a holding call on Tae Crowder added 15 more yards.
On 1st-and-10 on the New York 47, the Chiefs grabbed the ball and made the game-winning field goal a few plays later. A playback of the Kelce grab and run, although not reviewable, revealed that Crowder did not commit the facemask penalty.
The game was practically delivered to Mahomes and the Chiefs in two plays.
There’s still something wrong with Mahomes and the offense in Kansas City.

The Chiefs, who were once considered one of the most dynamic offenses in NFL history, faltered once again on Monday night.
Only two touchdowns were scored by the offense, and Mahomes threw another interception. He completed 29 of 49 passes for 275 yards, one score, and the interception stated above. If the Holmes interceptions had stood, he would have thrown two picks.
Mahomes threw an interception for the sixth consecutive game on Monday, giving him a total of 10 for the season. He’s thrown 18 interceptions since the start of the 2020 season, including two in Kansas City’s Super Bowl defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In general, Kansas City’s offensive has been abysmal in 2021, and it was no different against the Giants.
On third down, the Chiefs were just 5-of-12. They averaged 4.8 yards per play, which is a far cry from the blazing offensive we’ve seen before. Tyreek Hill had the longest catch of the game at 15 yards.
Something isn’t quite right. It all comes down to execution, according to Mahomes, who talked on the television broadcast after the victory.
Kansas City’s up and down offensive performance is a microcosm of the whole year, he added. “There are good times and difficult times in our lives. We have to become better and execute better for a complete game if we want to be who we want to be.”
Kansas City is far from being out of the woods.

Kansas City’s bacon was saved by the interception that was called back, as well as the facemask that was not. With a challenging run of games ahead, a defeat against New York would have put the Chiefs to 3-5 on the season.
The Chiefs aren’t assured to make it through the month of November, but the victory against the Jets allows Kansas City to stay afloat and give itself a shot now that the weather has changed.
Aaron Rodgers and the 7-1 Green Bay Packers are the Chiefs’ next opponents. The Packers will be on a type of mini-bye after defeating the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football. Green Bay will have ten days off between games, while Kansas City will only have six. The Packers are the hottest team in the NFL right now, and they’re on their way to getting healthy. Even at Arrowhead, the Chiefs’ chances of winning are slim.
Following the Green Bay game, Kansas City will travel to Las Vegas to face the AFC West-leading Las Vegas Raiders, who are now 5-2.
The Dallas Cowboys will be in town the following game.
The Cowboys are presently 6-1, and Dak Prescott should be totally healed by that game. With games against the Broncos and Falcons on the horizon, the Cowboys are likely to be 8-1 by the time they go to Kansas City.
Yes, the Chiefs’ victory against the Giants on Monday night effectively preserved their season.
Now the issue is, how long will this last?
ESPN and Pro Football Reference provided the statistics.
